Toluene diisocyanate (TDI)
Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) is an isocyanate produced at our plant located in Pont de Claix, France. It is marketed under the Scuranate brand name.
Benefits and Applications
TDI containing foams are used as cushioning material in application like e.g. furniture, bedding, seating or as carpet underlay and packaging.
TDI is also used in the manufacture of coatings, sealants, adhesives and elastomers.
The two principal isomers of TDI are classified as 2.4-toluene diisocyanate and 2.6-toluene diisocyanate. Scuranate T80 is a mixture of 80% of 2.4-toluene diisocyanate and 20% of 2.6-toluene diisocyanate. Major applications for Scuranate T80 include polyurethane flexible foam (slabs/mouldings), elastomers, paints/coatings, adhesives and binders.
Scuranate T65 is a mixture of 68% of 2.4-toluene diisocyanate isomer and 32% of 2.6-toluene diisocyanate isomer. This mixture is prepared after the crystallization and separation of the two isomers. T65 is used for viscoelastic, high-load bearing and high-resilience flexible foams.
T100 contains more than 99% of 2.4-toluene diisocyanate. This product is prepared after crystallization during the purification stage. T100 is mainly used in coatings, adhesives and cast elastomers.
Scuranate™ TX is a mixture of the 2.4 and 2.6 isomers with a high concentration of 2.4 isomer. It is prepared after crystallization during the purification stage and is used principally in coatings, adhesives and binders.

TDI (as well as other isocyanates) is a toxic and reactive chemical, which requires proper handling to ensure that it is used safely. Exposure by inhalation, skin contact or ingestion should be avoided. In particular, inhalation of vapours, aerosols and dust should be avoided, since they can lead to irritation and, in extreme cases, to a reduction of lung function and/or sensitization. Users or handlers should obtain and carefully review a material safety data sheet (MSDS).
